It’s no surprise that the Indonesian island of Batam is often a popular choice for Singaporeans looking for a quick weekend getaway! Less than an hour away from Singapore by ferry, Batam has beautiful beaches, great seafood, relaxing spas, brilliant golf course and duty free shopping.
If you are planning a short escape to Batam, you might be inundated with plenty of accommodation options. To make things easier, here is a review of one of the most value for money hotel options on the island – the Batam View Beach Resort.
Located near Nongsa Beach, Batam View is a sea facing resort with over 200 rooms of various types – ranging from standard rooms to exotic water villas. The huge property is well maintained and most importantly – it has something for everyone!
What to do at Batam View Beach Resort?
FOOD AND DRINKS
Wangi Melati Coffee House: The resort’s in-house multi cuisine café is open through the day and is also the venue for the daily buffet breakfast. The breakfast has a pretty good variety of items, both Western (eggs made to order, and Indonesian (fried rice/noodles, chicken curry etc).
Kelong Seafood and Asian Restaurant: A perfect option for seafood enthusiasts. The restaurant serves fresh seafood, local cuisine and drinks, but what truly sets it apart is its ambience. It is located on a jetty overlooking the sea, where you can watch a spectacular sunset, or have a romantic candlelight dinner.
BBQ Dinner: In case you like BBQ, the resort also has an open air BBQ dinner option in the gardens.
Lounge: You can grab a quick drink while enjoying a game of pool, foosball or darts at the bar and lounge located on the ground floor. Most nights, there is also a live band performance which is quite fun!
ACTIVITIES
Spa: 5th Dimension is the in house spa located on the 5th floor of the property. Fitted with french windows, you get a great view of the sea during your massage. Scroll to the bottom of the page for a price list of the spa treatments offered.
Pool: The hotel pool is hygienic, and has an attached pool bar which serves drinks and snacks. You can also rent floaties from the Sea Sport Centre for as little as IDR 30,000 (approx. SGD 3) apiece.
Beach: Batam View is lucky enough to have a private beach with beach beds, which is perfect for a lazy day in the sun! To make things perfect, there is also a beach café that serves soft drinks and beer.
Sea Sports Centre: This is where you’d need to go if you’re keen on water activities. Scroll to the bottom of the page for a price list of the activities on offer.
Playground and Games Room: You can keep your little ones occupied with a room full of games, or let them play around in the in-house playground.
Golf: There are 4 golf courses near the resort and transportation can be arranged to each of them. However, it is recommended to inform the reception at least a day in advance.
Shopping: The hotel arranges a free shuttle bus daily to take you to the nearest mall. This shuttle bus gets booked out very quickly, so it is a good idea to book your seat a day in advance. Also, do note that the bus is only one way (you will need to figure your way back). In case you’d like to visit any other malls, the hotel can arrange a taxi for you at an additional cost as well.
How to plan your visit?
It is highly recommended to book a package with the hotel through their website here. It is not only convenient, but also turns out more economical and ensures better service.
For example, a Spa Package inclusive of a one night stay at the hotel (with breakfast), return ferry ticket booking, land transfer (between the ferry terminal and hotel) as well as a one hour massage, is available for a mere IDR 1,100,000 (approx. SGD 110). Almost unbelievable!
You can expect prompt responses from the reservations desk. In addition, the hotel helps you with swift transfer services to and from the ferry terminal, and also fast tracks the immigration process.
Important Notes
- Breakfast is only until 10 am, so do ensure you’re at the coffee shop well in time (this is for late risers like me!)
- Kelong Restaurant: In order to reach the restaurant, you have to climb down a flight of stairs, which may be difficult if you’re travelling with senior citizens. Also, you can bring your own fishing equipment and try your hand at fishing at the end of the jetty, in case you are interested in the activity.
- The masseurs don’t speak much English, so please ensure that any special requests are communicated beforehand.
- Please check with the locals sitting near the beach before getting into the sea – the water is prone to stonefish and jellyfish during certain times.
- The activity list on the hotel website may be outdated. For instance, the village cycling tour on the website is no longer available.
- If you are interested in booking a taxi for the day, the hotel can make arrangements for you.
